Our Veterinarian For Over 20 Years - Dr. Kothmann

The knowledge to heal your pet…

Dr. Kothmann VeterinarianEven as a small child, Dr. Kothmann had a calling to animals. By the time he was in first grade, he had already acquired a reputation in his neighborhood as the kid who cares for pets. His gift was so apparent that his fifth grade teacher wrote him a letter at the end of the school year encouraging him to attend veterinary school at Texas A&M. So, it was only natural that he became a veterinarian. Over the last 2 decades, Dr. Kothmann has helped thousands of pets enjoy long, healthy lives.

  • D.V.M., Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine, 1985
  • B.S., Veterinary Science, Texas A&M University, 1983

Learning that never stops…

There are no shortcuts to the knowledge it takes to save a puppy from parvo or treat a tomcat for dogfight wounds. So, despite Dr. Kothmann's extensive experience, he still regularly exceeds the annual Texas state requirements for continued training to stay abreast of the latest breakthroughs in veterinary care.

Bob brought his dog, Sammy, in for a second opinion. He had been vomiting frequently and his regular veterinarian had recommended an exploratory procedure. After an in-depth examination, Dr. Kothmann discovered a plum-sized mass in Sammy's central abdomen. The mass was removed, and Sammy has been free of cancer ever since.

Rick's dog, Skipper, discovered the hard way that playing tag with the automatic garage door was not such a good idea. The resulting punctured lung put her into respiratory arrest. Dr. Kothmann was able to resuscitate her and then completely stop the leakage. Skipper was released the next day, full of life, if not a bit more wary of the garage door.

Carrie was concerned about her cat, Atilla. He had been breathing heavy and coughing for several days. At Bulverde Animal Hospital, they discovered that an abscess, resulting from a recent incident with a neighborhood feline bully, was putting pressure on Atilla's trachea. Dr. Kothmann drained and sutured the abscess, relieving the distress almost immediately. A week or so on antibiotics and Atilla was back to his prowlin' self.
